Marzano Design Coasters are the perfect combination of style and functionality. We have made this set of coasters in charred and brushed fir wood with a technique inspired by the ancient Japanese Shou Sugi Ban, and combined it with a practical coordinated holder.
The Shou Sugi Ban , which literally translates into “burnt cedar boards”, is a Japanese technique that dates back to around the 1700s. This technique consists of carbonizing the surface of the wood, closing the pores and making the wood much more waterproof and also more resistant to fire. Taking a cue from this ancient technique, this set of charred fir coasters has been subjected to a similar process in order to obtain an object with an attractive appearance and a degree of wear resistance greater than untreated wood.
All our creations are handcrafted in small quantities, respecting the original features of the materials we use.
